alexander mcqueen: savage beauty

worth the wait exhibit: alexander mcqueen: savage beauty at the met. shar's been meaning to hit this up but stories of 1.5 hours waiting in line were not fun. thankfully i borrowed a member's card and bypassed the line with new member liz in tow. the exhibit is staged like no other i've seen at the met. i've seen fashion exhibits like vivienne westwood at the deyoung or the golden age of coulture at the v&a, but nothing quite as elaborate. mcqueen spanned all sorts of styles from s&m to romanticism, and this exhibit incorporates teh gowns with not only videos but some extra specials which i don't wanna give away. my fav was the romantic patriotism pieces. this one in particular.

also i didn't know about his "bumster" pants, which i also liked. liked his quote the lower back being the sexiest place on the body.

i highly recommend catching this exhibit before it closes august 7.

rufus does judy

best belated gay evening: rufus does judy at the royal opera house. shar owns the album by rufus and the original by judy on vinyl (thanks mel!), so i was keen for the opportunity to see it live. it was happenstance that i was in town as rufus was taking over the royal opera house. i could not miss the opportunity. t got tickets, but sadly missed out as she was under the weather. pal michelle was game to step in. from the rousing "san francisco" rendition to end the first act to sister martha wainwright coming to belt out "stormy weather", the gig sent me back to the good ol' golden era of mgm musicals. though it wasn't the complete concert, it sent me off dancin' into the wet and cold streets of londontown happily.

crush of the month: ben sollee. shar hearts him ever so. saw him two weeks ago at mhow. his tiny desk concert is like a hug from baby jesus. you can check out the vid here.

warm up!

much belated ny summer must: warm up at p.s. 1. i don't know why i haven't been to one yet. i think it's because there's so many free things to do in the summer. anyhoot, i forked over $15 for ticket which i pre-purchased at agnes b. i highly recommend this because i bypassed an hour and 20 min line to get into the shindig.

fltgc: the hole and salon 94 freemans

happiest fltgc: friendswithyou's "smile" at the hole. after fun times on tuesday, shar had to hit up the companion exhibit. it exuded the same color bursts with appropriate smiles. reminds me of my pal kristin's stuff.





best stroll down sporty lane: "for the kids" at salon 94 freemans. shar's always loved sports as long as she could remember. this "vintage" sport poster show was a treat.

rainbow city

better late than never fltgc: rainbow city. it closes today so shar trekked uptown for this inflatable fun. going to hit up the hole on friday to round out the colorful fun with friendswithyou.

underwhelming fltgc: wu tsang at clifton benevento. heard some good reviews about this show, but found it sparse. maybe i didn't grasp the gravity of it, but i suppose art is in the eye of the beholder.
