fltgc: t. rosenblum & c. seltzer
best remedy for a shut out: two heads are better than one at the hole. shar didn't get tickets to this after waiting in line in the damp cold. this exhibit was just the playful whimsy to cheer me up. a mix of sculpture, paintings and drawings, theo rosenblum and chelsea seltzer pull from pop culture characters. i especially liked the added details to the found paintings and the kitschy frames.

prima donna
must listen: prima donna. rufus wainwright's original opera had its us debut on sunday afternoon, but i saw it last night with v and rachel. we were perched in the balcony but had a good view of the ms. prima donna, soprano melody moore (pictured right with rufus). she was aiight, i was more wowed by rebecca bottone who played marie. i loved her opening song after the top of the second act, "paris is not picardie". her voice was fresh and spritely, unlike ms. moore, which i guess could have been more for her washed up soprano character. in any case, what a feat to have written an opera. it's full of all the layer baroque tones you come to know rufus for. only two more shows at bam, tomorrow and saturday if you wanna get on this rufus opera train.

j versus s
okay am i the only one who was kinda underwhelmed by bon iver's self-titled follow-up to for emma, forever ago. i have to say that stripped down dueling piano between justin and sean is my cup of tea. making me take a second look at the album. no auto-tune needed, just lovely tickling keys and two great voices. sean, i heart you! no need to sing "i can't make you love me if you don't". loved it all the same. ;)

fltgc: juergen teller and mark price
best unintentional artist run-in's: juergen teller and mark price. shar's getting back in the gallery crawlin' saddle and happy to have today. first up the newly opened juergen teller exhibit at lehmann maupin. i was jazzed to be one of the early kids getting in before the opening reception tonight, and i was in for another treat when mr. teller waked in with a few black coat cronies. what got me was his german accent which i remembered from this time. for his latest exhibit, juergen mixes photos of kristen mcmenamy, vivienne westwood, william eggleston and pics around his home in suffolk. i enjoyed the latter best.
then, i hit up an oldie but goodie that since has been renamed kesting/ray (formerly christina ray and glowlab). the new mark price exhibit, hyper 20xx, opened last night and i sadly missed the reception. i had some crazy mojo because mark was there with his family. it was really sweet and i got reintroduced to mark by christina. i love the direction that his work is going. more assemblage and text, but still playing with layers of screen print. love it!
sorry my head is in the glare

super baugh
best remedy to a loss: jim harbaugh = coach of the year. on super bowl day which usually is one of my happiest times, it's with a bittersweet note i make my mini turkey loaves in the shape of footballs. it's taken me two weeks to get over the loss. i was very much in the same state as one daisy barringer. walking through ny, i could not escape the giants fans regaling and one certain coworker taunting me in the halls with the niners' bitter loss. needless to say it was refreshing to see jim harbaugh win the coach of the year award last night. this faithful is ready for next season's torture.

fltgc: jon kessler
best blue friday excursion: the blue project at salon 94. i didn't know much about jon kessler, but the review in tony made me check it out. boy was i glad i got back on my friday lunch time gallery crawl horse for this one. once you descend to the ground floor there is a explosion of blue, cameras, screens and cardboard cut outs of people. the screens loop video of blues - the blue man group, tobias funke of the dearly departed arrested development and mel gibson in braveheart make-up. don't miss the smaller room adjacent to the large piece. there are a few nice collages. the blue project is up until march 10.
saw this on my way one. shepard fairey on rivington and bowery
