niners win!

five years

tis my five year anniversary in new york.  man how time flies. i remember being slightly amped off a trip to london and settling into my pal mel's in east village (i DID live in manhattan for a week). we went to a lucksmiths show at cafe europa, which is now a club. funnier is that mel wasn't familiar with greenpoint at the time and now lives there. needless to say a LOT has happened in five years.

i've explored the northeast (upstate, poconos, maine-new hampshire, niagara falls, catskills, ithaca). heck, i lived in london for 6 months. there has been amazing art over the years - be kind rewind, swimming cities, gnomes vs snowmen, nuit blanche, storm king and not to mention all the armory shows.  oh and the music - bon iver at o.g. sound fix, adele at highline ballroom, sigur ros at moma, fleet foxes at bowery, sufjan listening party, st. vincent at bell house, patrick watson at manhattan inn and lianne la havas at bowery.

there have been many firsts. i had my very first snow day! i attended my first fashion show. i completed my first 10k. there have also been many farewells as pals moved back to the west coast or abroad. with this milestone, i can't help think how much longer. before i moved i thought five years would be sufficient to get that new york bug out of my system, but as the years flew it was less about shaking it off and calling brooklyn my home. so how many more years? i am coming back to california. that i know. when is the expiration date on new york? that's the million dollar question.

must new band to snap up: wall. enjoying this recent find from across the pond off their recent sesh over at daytrotter. the delicate vocals and sparse arrangements are the perfect blend of woozy reverie. they also filmed a fab black cab sesh. view below.

kusama

better late than never art must: fireflies on the water. so i raced down thinking yayoi kusama was closing in a week, but the fireflies are actually up for another month.  regardless, i'm glad i got my arse to the whitney stat for the experience.  it's one minute of spatial awakening. really that's not even a satisfactory description because it needs to be experienced first hand. go, you won't be sorry.  it closes october 28 and her major retro closes september 30.

...are making me reflect on my last vacay.  finally made this vid because i'm missing summer goodness as it gets cooler in brooklyn with fall around the corner. pretty pictures by issy and mediocre snaps by me.

return to art: fltgc. my prowlness for art has been waning, but trying to kick start it as the fall approaches. i need to get my butt to the whitney before the yayoi kusama closes. before that i hit up artist space for 2000 wasted years, a retrospective on the "works" of the bernadette corporation. cataloging their early fashion line to publications and films, it's an insight into a diy collective creating thought provoking commentary of our times.

NOBODY!  i like being an underdog and that's why i love my niners so.  packers were 5pt favorites.  oh wait, guess what?  niners 30, packers 22.  first time we had won at lambeau field since 1990.  heck, david akers hit a 63-yard field goal, tying the nfl record for longest distance. get ready for more niners posts. shar's in football mode.
