i'm a mariinsky virgin but popped that cherry tonight for a tribute to maya plisetskaya. both prima ballerinas were on show with diana veshneva dancing the carmen suite and uliana lopatkina mesmerizing as the dying swan. the evening ended with archival footage of maya plisetskaya dancing to a live orchestra playing bolero. the entire program brought back memories of late 80's and early 90's winter olympics ice skating champs. katerina witt skating to carmen, torvill and dean to bolero, and oksana baiul as the dying swan. both swans hail from the ukraine.
