jolie holland @ housing works

much belated live performance: jolie holland. i have been a fan of jolie's for quite some time since her debut catalpa. i was bummed to miss her at noise pop two years ago. i opted not to see her at city winery due to funds. i'm glad i waited to see her at housing work's live from home series for a cheaper and more intimate experience. plus, housing works reminds me of the bookstore that audrey hepburn works at in funny face. i had never stepped in here before and now that i have i wanna go back again and again.

jolie was a delight. she started with "palmyra", which she said was dedicated to her friends in the third ward. she sang my fav "the future", which is similar in vain to the torch singer i experienced last night. jolie did not play her tribute to the sf bay, but you can hear "honey girl" on daytrotter. she did, however strum "mexico city", which is my second fav on her latest album. i'm glad to have finally experience that vocal twang and elongated verse.
