another one bites the dust

it seems like every year a cali pal moves back to the home state. niroshi has been in nyc for over a decade. that's some major time. i remember visiting her in her apartment that literally was next to the F line. it was like soooo new york. i remember calling her when 9/11 happened and getting a busy signal. i'll always remember our chance encounters where she lived in the epicenter of billyburg. i will sorely miss my dear friend. it makes me think how long i'll be in new york. only time will tell i suppose.

fltgc: sturtevant

return to routine (or not): fltgc at gavin brown enterprises. met up with jac for the sturtevant exhibit before it closed. lots of re-purposed video. it was nice and a/c'ed on this high 80's day. as we were walking back it dumped on us. the thunder and lightening had me singing "raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens." have to apologize in advance as summer fridays makes for distraction from gallery crawlin'.  i'll do my best to keep it up.

i'll make it to sasquatch to witness this glorious melding of music and nature.

moonrise kingdom

best motivation to runaway: moonrise kingdom.  it took me a while to get around to watching the latest wes anderson flick, but i craved out time this evening. anderson has a knack for casting little people. kara hayward (suzy) and jared gilman (sam) anchor the film.  kara, who is reminscent of emma watson, provides a sinister match to jared's capable sam, a mini-jason schwartzman.  suzy's kid brother lloyd looks like the second coming of ralphie's kid brother randy in a christmas story. i'm jealous of lloyd's portable record player.  it's totally necessary for a runaway plan into the forest.

an evening with anthony bourdain

much belated live appear -ance: an evening with anthony bourdain at bam. i've long been an admirer of tony from "kitchen confidential" to the layover. the evening began with eric ripert posing as tony clad in a leather jacket which he tossed into the crowd. friends, this truly is a culinary bromance if i ever saw one. armed with slides and clips from no reservations, tony went through a colorful commentary on the foodie world.  that's him chiding the cooking of paula dean above. he went on the talk about the behind the scenes of no reservations productions. he followed up the presentation with a q & a, where the questions ranged from when is the layover coming to toronto, taiwan, madagascar, etc to advice to culinary graduates. the evening ended with an enduring story of his daughter devouring a lobster after referencing sebastian from the little mermaid. like father like daughter.

room of one's own

okay few of you folks have been curious of the new digs. look at all the furniture i can fit in my room?!?!?!?!  a great improve to my closet sized former abode. nice living room and a little dining table for good measure.
