back in the art game

i've been off my art game and slacking. i did see check out the laura poitras exhibit last week at the whitney but was back in the art game today in full force. catching the marcel dzama and raymond pettibon at david zwirner to the catherine opie show at lehman maupin. west to east gallery crawl ending at the hole for vanessa prager.

fltgc: salon 94, the hole and dossier outpost

getting back to regularly scheduled friday lunch time gallery crawls.  it's part of a balanced diet. first up, salon 94 for a long overdue trip to see jayson musson's exhibit of abstract art. then, a few blocks north for the warp & woof group show at the hole. lastly, a trip south to the dossier outpost pop-up featuring caris reid's birds of paradise.

giverny

early fltgc: the hole for giverny.  the atmospheric exhibit by e.v. day and kembra pfahler has kembra in nothing but hot pink body paint posing in monet's famed gardens.  issy shot the instagram on right of a replica of the famed japanese bridge.  check it out it's like being in giverny without the plane ride.  thanks jac for the rec!

fltgc: t. rosenblum & c. seltzer

best remedy for a shut out: two heads are better than one at the hole. shar didn't get tickets to this after waiting in line in the damp cold.  this exhibit was just the playful whimsy to cheer me up. a mix of sculpture, paintings and drawings, theo rosenblum and chelsea seltzer pull from pop culture characters.  i especially liked the added details to the found paintings and the kitschy frames.

fltgc: the hole and salon 94 freemans

happiest fltgc: friendswithyou's "smile" at the hole. after fun times on tuesday, shar had to hit up the companion exhibit. it exuded the same color bursts with appropriate smiles. reminds me of my pal kristin's stuff.





best stroll down sporty lane: "for the kids" at salon 94 freemans. shar's always loved sports as long as she could remember. this "vintage" sport poster show was a treat.

fltgc: christina ray and the hole

best epic return to fltgc: christina ray. sadly, the namesake was not present but shar and jac enjoyed heather l. johnson's erasure. her careful use of needlepoint to depict the past history of asylums in hudson county, nj is inventive and harkens back to old timey maps. jac though they were prisons, and shar thought they were for "crazies". jac commented about how very p.c. shar is. despite my un-pc nature, shar was right.

from christina ray, i hit the hole solo. this was a spot that my pal mel had recommended. apparently the new gallery in soho was founded by two former directors of the greatly missed deitch projects. the hole keeps up with the fun that deitch was known for with hot glue hullabaloo. bursts of color line the walls and head to the backroom for a dayglo fun.
