j versus s
okay am i the only one who was kinda underwhelmed by bon iver's self-titled follow-up to for emma, forever ago. i have to say that stripped down dueling piano between justin and sean is my cup of tea. making me take a second look at the album. no auto-tune needed, just lovely tickling keys and two great voices. sean, i heart you! no need to sing "i can't make you love me if you don't". loved it all the same. ;)

dark was the night
must forgot to mention in last entry: dark was the night. it was featured on the aforementioned asc segment. saki told me about this awesome widget to add my top 3. it was really hard to decide since all the tracks are stellar, but this was mine. you can make your own here.

bon iver covers the outfield's "your love"
yeah not sure about about this cover. i think justin should stick to sarah siskind's lovin's for fools. if he isn't going to rock it out, don't cover "your love". man, i REALLY wanna karaoke now. anyone? just listen and tell me you don't wanna sing.

bon iver @ town hall
artist that just gets better: bon iver. okay, i was pretty blown away and i had already had the opportunity to see him pre-blow-up. i wasn't sure if he could up that first time, but he did. wow, oh wow! even though i was seated in the heights of the loge, mike and i were lucky enough to be on the side justin was playing on. justin and gang ran through "for emma" and the new ep "blood bank". this was theset list:
- flume
- lump sum
- for emma
- beach baby
- blood bank
- skinney love
- creature fear
- re. stacks
- wolves
- babys
- lovin's for fools (sarah siskind cover)
thanks mike!

headlights @ tobacco warehouse
must much anticipated show: headlights at tobacco warehouse in the empire-fulton state park section of the brooklyn bridge park. the fine folks of union hall organized the line-up and one of the acts i've been dying to see came out form champaign, il. hip hip for headlights! shar has been loving bands from the midwest as of late. i think the midwest is the new scandie invasion. lots of pensive, sweet tunes are coming out of here (bon iver, the owls, margot and the nuclear so and so's, pomegranates).
my love of for headlights started here. i was really drawn to "some stopping, some racing" and erin's vocals. nothing special but something about the simpleness of it all that made me really melancholy in a good way. so when i saw her finally last night i was a ball of glee. the sound was pretty terrible, but the stage presence made up for it. tristan called up two little girls to enlist some backup dancing goodness. i swear nick was going to knock down one of these gals, but the pro that he is, managed to dodge the jumpin' and twirlin' girlies. much tambourine was had.
best after concert treat: chocolate chocolate chunk at brooklyn ice cream factory. $3.50 is pricey for a scooop but oh so delicious while admiring the view of the bk bridge and one of olafur eliasson's waterfalls on the lovely night. dessert before dinner. jac made a garlicky fennel, artichoke and carrot salad. mmmm!

geography of bliss
must book to be adopted by book club: geography of bliss by eric weiner. okaaaaay, i totally nominated this book for book club, but i think it's not going to win. :( this is my second plea via personal blog. *nudge mike* *nudge jac* NUDGE! do you feel my virtual plea?!?!??! anyhow, i just started it and it's grrrreat. here is my fav quote so far:"For me, a place unvisited is like an unrequited love. All dull ache that-try as you might to think it away, to convince yourself that she really wasn't the right country for you-just won't leave you in peace."
now, can this be the book club book? if not, i have in defense of food on my shelf for my next read. ;) can you tell shar is a geeky npr follower?
my geography of bliss: naidre's on this wet sunday morning. i was lazy and bored of eggs and hash brown for breakie, so i headed down to naidre's for a some coffee and chocolate croissant. had my book in hand. lo and behold what tune pops up...bon iver's "flume". swoon in my heart of hearts. they were playing the whole album. bon iver seems to follow me. he love me lots. i once heard "skinny love" in an almost desolate clinton-washington G stop. naidre's provide great tunes and yummers breakfast.

rockaways
best easter trip: rockaways! mel had the brilliant idea to head out to far rockaway to get some good ol' beach time. here's a little photo essay of the trip.
yup, it's freezing, but i can't help but dip my toes.

i took this one of mel on the jetty. she was afraid to get to the edge.

here is a number i found. guess corrine never got called. :(

best rockaways soundtrack: bon iver. his falsetto seems to go perfect with the crashing waves. check out this video from sxsw.
