balance - mel kadel

first fltgc purchase: balance by mel kadel at gallery hanahou's prints&pages pop-up show. since i was introduced to her by kristin, i've been a fan of mel's for a few years now. something about her heroine's unsurmountable feats and acrobatic movement drew me in. i was happy to finally be a proud owner of one of her prints. i chose from 5 prints and i think i got the best coffee stained piece. what do you think? i also got some stickers for good measure. get your's. there's 4 left and plenty of stickers.

fltgc: mel kadel

furtherest fltgc to date: nancy margolis gallery for mel kadel's sun days. this was a solo effort as it was a bit further than any other crawl we had done. i hopped on the C and up to the art mecca, ie. chelsea. i was introduced to mel's works by the loverily kristin. i saw her stuff last fall at cinders. i heart mel's stuff, and i kick myself for not splurging on a print last fall. sun days is a continuation of the explorations of her lil gal heroine traipsing through surreal feats in an abyss of holes and bursts of color. the color reminds me of dr. seuss.

is it wrong that i want "spacing out" (below) as my wall paper in my apartment? the piece is four grand. that's some pricey wallpaper.

i like how the glare of overhead lighting hit just the top of the lil gal's hands in "personal trophy"
sorry the pics are crappy. the lighting in the gallery is all glarey and the glass doesn't help either. you can view them better here or go see them in person. it's up until may 30.

mel kadel @ cinders

must show: mel kadel at cinders gallery. oh my golly, her stuff is really ahmazing. (thanks kristin for the scoop) she does pretty small scale drawings on coffee stained paper, busting with colors that evoke suessian childhood memories. it's fun. it's crazy. it's cute. go see it, you won't be sorry. her opening last night was well attended. i really want her book that was on sale. maybe i might have to go back and get it.

most random tangent about coffee: stumptown coffee is coming to brooklyn. red hook to be exact. i am totally biking there for my coffee fix. i cannot wait. the store will be on van brunt. once this darn tropical storm stops i'm going to bike over to the hook for some ikea swedish meatballs. mmmmmm! then, once the stump is open. i'm there. you should be too.
