head in the clouds

happy mom's day! in honor of another mom - mother earth, i "helped" with the build of a cloud-shaped pavilion that will be a signature piece at figment this summer on governors island. they still need a ton of volunteers for the remainder of the build. sign-up for fun here.

did i get you a sigg?

belated green report: sigg is conducting a voluntary exchange program. shar's bought many siggs for her friends. if you wanna exchange your's, kula is an exchange site. got to get them to me by october 31 tho. if you wanna be safer than sorry that is, but you are talking to that gal who has her nalgene from 2001. i'll bring to the bottles in and bring back you a shiny new sigg with powder-based, co-polyester ecocare liner instead of previously used water-based epoxy resin liner. exciting no?

happy earth day

be extra good to the earth today. i'm going to recycle plastic bags today because they are the cancer of my apartment. i know it can be hard to be green in new york, but every little bit helps. let's keep mother earth looking glamorous.

murakami mother's day

best spot to spend mother's day:
brooklyn museum. strollers were rampant at the museum and i even saw a stroller docking section in the murakami exhibit. the exhibit isn't rated pg, but most of the pieces are exploding with cuteness. you can't help but enjoy.

revelation of the day: murakami designed the cover of kayne west's "graduation" album. i recognized the anime-like style and i should know kanye's keen eye for style and design that he would enlist murikami's talents for an album cover. shame on shar for not knowing.

second best accomplishment for mother's day: after calling mom and wishing her best wishes for the day and how i would make it up to her later this month when i'm home, i did a little something for my other mom - mother earth. that was cheesy, huh? well, i love me the environment and i FINALLY found a place to recycle plastic bags. i was ecstatic. my pet peeve is the crazy multiplication of plastic bags in my apartment even though i make a conscious effort not to take bags and always have my tote. so when i saw the barrel for plastic bag recycling you can just imagine my elation. i stuffed those suckers nice a good. if you want to do want to give mother earth a hug, the barrel is on baltic and smith in brooklyn.

going green in new york is hard

must battle to be won: being green in new york. i know new yorkers hate when sf kids talk about how we got our priorities straight but recycling and the like are difficult here. when i first got here i really wanted to recycle my bottles and cans, but you need to get these clear trash bags. i finally got those. what happened to bins? bins are good and they are all sorted and lovely.

then, there are plastic bags. they are a pet peeve of mine. they just multiply and multiply. i have my own hemp grocery tote that i got from my old work, so say no to bags on my trips to fairway and tj's. i also say no to plastic bags or any bag in general, but then i get the look. you know like that the what eff look. i try to smooth the bag rejection by saying i'm saving the earth, but i get the smirk. a girl can't win can she.
