the brown girl
npr wrote a lovely piece about the 78 project, which seeks to record that old-timey sound with 78 rpm acetate discs. one of my favs, dawn landes sings "the brown girl" amongst the greenery of the ny botanical gardens.

the archive
just a normal saturday listening to records in my apartment. i've inspired my visiting brit jenny to get a player herself. funny enough i opened my email and andy had sent over this:
a slightly sad story but one i thought your vinyl-loving soul would appreciate
The Archive from Sean Dunne on Vimeo.
i totes enjoyed this bittersweet story about paul mawhinney and wish i had $3 million to save the archive. :(

holly miranda at other music
we jammed into the cozy store with cd racks pushed to the edges for holly plus band to rip some tunes.
holly was kind enough to sign my 7"x. she likes my name. :)
the in-store was a perfect intimate way to witness holly in her gorgeous glory. if you haven't seen her yet, i advise you do. here's lil taste by yours truly's nate chan.

happy birthday to me
vinyl find of the year: not one, not two, but SEVEN sam cooke 45s. i've been searching for some sam cooke on vinyl and not until today was i able to find some. i was strolling the 5th avenue street fair with jason and behold the fifth avenue records & tapes. they had 45s and lps. i bought all their 45s because finding a collection like that it rare. and oh yes, shar had to have them. i may go back for the lps, but i'm content with my 45s for now:
"chain gang"/"cupid"
"twistin the night away"/"you send me"
"wonderful world"/everybody loves to cha cha cha"
"another saturday night"/"send me some lovin'"
"shake"/"cousin of mine"
"having a party"/"bring it on home to me"
"good times"/"frankie and johnny"
notice no uber sought out "change is gonna come". i also would like "love will find a way", "sad mood", "that's where it's at" and "i'll come running back to you".
