best instand gratification: marques toliver at leighton house. found out about marques over the weekend and saw him last night at the gorgeously ornate leighton house. shar's a fan of musical performances in unique spaces. maybe that's why i love vincent moon, yours truly, la blogotheque and black cab sessions so.
he ain't no basia but can strum like catherine o'hara in "a mighty wind"
great expectations: restoration house, inspriration for miss havisham
the vines, rochester
best decade belated show: robyn! shar loved swedish pop star turn dance queen since her early days in the late 90's. remember this. so when i heard she was coming to london, i bought me a pair of tickets. jenny was in tow and we danced the entire concert in the upper reserve seats. she started off with the quirky "fembots". she then barreled through most of the body talk trilogy:
must early fltgc: it ain't friday, but i wish it were, so shar's a gallery crawlin'. i suppose i started yesterday, but i've had to make up for a lack of artsy goodness in general for the past months of lunches at my desk. first up, james turrell at the gagosian. it's a sensory exhibit of lighting that harks back to this fltgc and the works of dan flavin. (note to self: must go to dan flavin institute upon my return to ny)
slow burning next big thing: nicholas pol at old dairy presented by vladimir restoin roitfled. shar was interested in the proximity of the space to her current office (miss me some fltgc) and the fact that it was an old dairy. heck, i was won over by the fact that model turned art dealer vlad was the talk of london town over the frieze art fair week. his show sold out on opening night. i am not sure i'm entirely a fan of pol's works, but i must say it grew on me a bit. my first impression was "what kind of pretentious painting is this". the scale of the paintings in the the cavernous old dairy almost made it too up close and personal for me. (i was the only one there aside from a gallery assistant.)

belated celebration: niners 17, raiders 9. holy moly, we finally won a game. shar's been so out of it overseas that i just realized we won our first game of the season. what kind of faithful am i? sorry niners time difference really sucks, but congrats on your win. here's hoping for a wild card spot.

oleg tolstay - very jabberwockiesqe, no?

belated return to artsy goodness: shar's been neglecting her artsiness, so happy to have attended the moniker international art fair last night. one of the best fairs i've been to this year, but a bit bias as most of my artists showing were my favs. it's up until sunday, 17 october my london folk. i highly suggest you attend and it's FREE.
