true dat friends! bummed shar will be missing all the admiral radley gigs. cali friends they are going up and down the coast. at BOTH 23 july. and ny kids they hit bowery 20 august. go give jason a hug for me.

back to back

lukewarm summer concert so far: pains of being pure at heart at south street seaport. shar was looking forward to this free gig and well she came out underwhelmed. maybe it was where i was standing but the sound was a bit off. it was aiiight the friday before for here we go magic. kip's voices were decent but peggy was virtually unaudible aside from her profession of her love for pizzeria uno.

best return: jason lytle at union hall. i haven't seen this kid in over 2 years on the farewell grandaddy tour. i raced from south street to brooklyn to catch his set. i was there before he went on, however the crowds had descended, so i was unable to be upfront which is where you have to be at union hall to see anything. much different than the last time i saw him at cafe du nord with tables and chairs. i was only a couple feet away from him preshow when he was chatting with his merch peeps. i kicked myself for not saying something about how much his music rules and loving his new tunes. this is the best shot i got of him from where i was standing.

1.) jason lytle first listen on npr. okay, i guess shar can stop putting the new st. vincent on repeat now. helllllo jason! oh man, all this great music form my fav artists all in my favorite month of may.

oh man, just finished my first listen and it's perfect for this gloomy, wet day. jason, shar hearts you times infinity. you capture melancholy in the most apropos way. i'm really digging "i am lost (and the moment cannot last)" and "this song is the must button". ready to hit repeat.

2.) morning run in prospect park in the sprinkling rain. it's refreshing and prolly the little pocket of dryishness i'm getting this week. i forgot about the cars on weekdays. right at 8am they let them in. it's scary. you think bikes whizzing by is bad, not so friend.

3.) the lil birdie that woke me up chirping on my fire escape/urban balcony. shar is the urban snow white.

4.) looking forward to cinco de mayo tacos in spanish harlem with dean, jin yu and jen.

all time best music exclusives: npr music. okay, i can't say enough about npr and it's not because i used to work for them. this month they have blown me away with the content they've put up. from jason lytle's sesh at sxsw to the blind pilot vid, they just keeping coming out with the best extra EXTRAS. there's talks of first listens for jason lytle, mirah and dylan's new albums. here is a checklist of the best of this month (and a little from last month):
