st. vincent rocks fasion week

shar isn't a fashionista, but she enjoys pretty things. i rarely blog the clothes, like a certain someone i know, but i had to post this pic. annie rocked rachel comey's show. wish i could walk the runway in rachel's frocks to annie's vocals.

belated realization: sharock featured on brooklyn vegan. shar was just going over her google analytics stats and realized she was getting hits from bv. so shar did some reaserch. lo and behold she was quoted on bv a month ago. whoa! can they pay her now? shar takes concert tickets for payment. :)

best "secret" show: st. vincent at bell house. i was on this once i heard the word from my trusty bell house newsletter. shar is indeed one of the bell house's much frequent customers. thanks for getting a super duper awesome act for appreciation night. sure, i just saw her about a month ago. i can't get enough of her and at my fav venue for only $10. i could not pass that up.

it's the first time i've seen annie perform in an outfit that wasn't all black. she opened with "marry me", which was fitting since several guys professed their desire to propose matrimony to the fair annie. she continued with selections from "actor", including "the strangers", "black rainbow" and "actor out of work".

notable was her solo rendition of "paris is burning". just annie and her electric guitar. twas perfection. also, on "marrow" she called her gal pals to h-e-l-p.
on her last song, "your lips are red", she lost her pick, but luckily an audience member retrieved it for her.
indie rock repeat offender: sondre lerche. dude, this guy is on the indie rock. i saw him at bh last time for doe. saw him again at doe's gig at pop rally. this time i'm pretty sure he was with the same lady friend from pop rally. dude was right behind me exiting the show. shar's got a sondre shadow.

must rock out of a disney inspired album: st. vincent at webster hall. oh annie, how shar has waited and waited and waited for your fairness to grace thee. you did not disappoint. i haven't seen you since your gig at cafe du nord back in august of 2007 and with your new album in tow you brought it. you also won some new fans in karen and virginia, who accompanied me to your ball.

must listen to blow your mind: okay, i'm listening to st.vincent's actor on npr's exclusive first listen. i can't get enough of her and sad the album is less than 40 minutes. i want more annie. i suppose i shall wait to see the real deal may 18. or settle for her "actor out of work" vid.

npr music rocks my socks off

all time best music exclusives: npr music. okay, i can't say enough about npr and it's not because i used to work for them. this month they have blown me away with the content they've put up. from jason lytle's sesh at sxsw to the blind pilot vid, they just keeping coming out with the best extra EXTRAS. there's talks of first listens for jason lytle, mirah and dylan's new albums. here is a checklist of the best of this month (and a little from last month):

okie dokie this is a treat from npr music. they filmed annie practicing pre-show in austin. view annie strumming "the strangers" and her hammering out "actor out of work". npr doesn't provided code to embed so you have to click on the pic to watch via the npr player. i know a hassle but worth it. also, don't forget to get your tickets for her webster hall gig. can you tell i'm excited?

sxsw remedy

best remedy for not being at sxsw: st. vincent at webster hall on may 20. what's better than the indie queen of austin on tour for her new album actor to wipe those woes of not being at sxsw this past week. i'm super psyched though i miss seeing annie in a more intimate venue like last time. check out the latest single "the strangers".


actor is disney inspired. it brings back memories of forest friends rambling alongside snow white or aurora (aka sleeping beauty), and one of them falls into a well meeting up with alice for a tea party with the mad hatter. annie kinda looks like snow white in this cae for la blogotheque.
