alexander mcqueen: savage beauty

worth the wait exhibit: alexander mcqueen: savage beauty at the met. shar's been meaning to hit this up but stories of 1.5 hours waiting in line were not fun. thankfully i borrowed a member's card and bypassed the line with new member liz in tow. the exhibit is staged like no other i've seen at the met. i've seen fashion exhibits like vivienne westwood at the deyoung or the golden age of coulture at the v&a, but nothing quite as elaborate. mcqueen spanned all sorts of styles from s&m to romanticism, and this exhibit incorporates teh gowns with not only videos but some extra specials which i don't wanna give away. my fav was the romantic patriotism pieces. this one in particular.

also i didn't know about his "bumster" pants, which i also liked. liked his quote the lower back being the sexiest place on the body.

i highly recommend catching this exhibit before it closes august 7.

fashion week: y-3

best new york moment: y-3 show for ny fashion week. shar's not much of a fashion plate, but she does admire the art of clothing. y-3 is up my alley too since it's more a casual sports wear line from adidas by yohji yamamoto. my roomie happened upon 2 passes, so off we went for the show at the park avenue armory, which is an ahmazing space. the location was a set for trading places and that episode of satc where charlotte gets her tartan dress torn by trey. fashion faux pas indeed.

the show began with some precise beams of light across the long catwalk. meow! this lighting scheme reminded me of the fever ray concert.

yohji incorporated masks in the second half of the show

these trenches were promptly stripped and thrown at the end of the catwalk

fltgc: anna sui

random break from fltgc: anna sui target pop-up store. fashion as art i suppose for this week's edition of fltgc. jac and i braved the windy and wet weather to check out the fuss over the gossip girl inspired threads. i only took a few pics because i was a bit irked by the random models lounging. very serena and blair. there is a good gallery of the visual design of the pop-up here.

one of the dresses in the collection. prolly the most age appropriate for moi. i really wanted this skirt but they didn't have any more in my size. i did like the orange and brown palette for the vanessa look. i'm more a bk gal anyhow i suppose.

st. vincent rocks fasion week

shar isn't a fashionista, but she enjoys pretty things. i rarely blog the clothes, like a certain someone i know, but i had to post this pic. annie rocked rachel comey's show. wish i could walk the runway in rachel's frocks to annie's vocals.

two fashion favs join forces

i don't blog about fashion much because i'm not much of a designer label whatchamacallit person. i do love jcrew, though i haven't shopped them in a while. AND i do love tretorn, swedish purveyors of casual sneaks, rain boots and easy breezy sportswear. so when tretorn offered their classic trainers on jcrew, it's a worth a blog. fashionista or not.
